Alton School

About the school

Alton School is an independent, co-educational Catholic school with over 500 pupils of all faiths from Nursery through to Sixth Form. The school is located on the outskirts of the market town of Alton in Hampshire.

As our 2017 Independent Schools Inspectorate report confirmed, our school is ‘excellent’ in every category. We are selective in the Senior School and achieve outstanding academic results, making the most of every individual pupil’s potential. We offer a broad, liberal education which nurtures mind, body and soul. We help our pupils find their moral compass, to understand themselves and what they can contribute to the world, to make the most of life and the talents they have been given. This is encapsulated by our motto, ‘Be the best that you can be’.

The school is currently undertaking a development programme as part of its vision of a modern, diverse, outward-looking school which inspires intellectually brave, morally sound, confident young people who are prepared for life. New DT and sports facilities are planned as well as investment in IT infrastructure. Race ski training, rowing taster sessions and CCF (Army) are the latest additions to the broad co-curricular programme on offer.

Alton School is a vibrant and stimulating academic community. Our students enjoy learning and our teachers enjoy teaching. There is ample opportunity for professional development and the school participates in Hampshire’s NQT induction programme. Teachers enjoy much autonomy in the classroom and subject schemes of work are not constrained by the requirements of the National Curriculum. This is a great place to work, with lively, engaged students and friendly, supportive colleagues.
