About Danes Hill Preparatory School
Message from the Headmaster
At Danes Hill we aim to take every child in our care on a most extraordinary journey, and one which can nurture the talent and provide the skills and experience to last a lifetime. From the nervous child’s first arrival at Transition’s door to the self-confident teenager addressing his or her final Speech Day, from infant to young adult, it is a privilege to be responsible for a child’s development through these formative years.
Danes Hill is a large school, and this enables us to provide an uniquely broad curriculum as well as specialist staff. Through challenging and encouraging pupils in their pursuit of excellence, we allow children to thrive, achieving success on the sports field, in the examination hall, or wherever their talents lie. Testament to this is the fact that this year, Danes Hill pupils have been awarded 57 Senior School scholarships. But we are also an inclusive school, where every pupil is equally important to us. The balance of learning support, academic scholarship, physical development and pastoral care is tailored to the needs of the individual boy or girl. We lay the greatest possible importance on good communications with parents: we believe that education is a team effort, with home and school journeying together for the benefit of the child.
About Danes Hill Preparatory School:
Danes Hill School is widely recognised as one of the leading co-educational day preparatory schools in the country. Situated in 55 acres of landscaped ground in the village of Oxshott, Surrey, Danes Hill provides boy and girls aged 3 to 13 with a broad and balanced curriculum.
Pupils are encouraged to realise their fullest possible academic potential, and each year a large number of scholarship and exhibition awards are achieved at a wide range of day and boarding Senior Schools. Danes Hill children are characteristically self-confident and outgoing and, in addition to the emphasis on academic work, they have plenty of opportunity to develop sporting, musical, dramatic and other non-academic interests.
Why Work at Danes Hill Preparatory School?
Danes Hill offers an exceptional working environment. Set in 55 acres bordering open countryside, yet commutable to London, it is a thriving school which has received an outstanding report by the Independent School’s Inspectorate. Inspectors described the school as ‘excellent in all areas’ and commented that ‘teamwork is strong’. They also noted that ‘relationships between pupils and staff, and amongst the pupils, are consistently outstanding’. We feel these comments accurately reflect the school and are indeed key to making it such a great place to work. An on-going building program is further developing the classroom accommodation, adding to the excellent existing facilities that include specialist science laboratories, art, design and technology rooms, performance spaces and high quality sports facilities.
Working at Danes Hill you become part of a large, dynamic community encompassing all the teaching and non-teaching staff. Dedicated support staff work in tandem with teaching staff, taking care of many of the administrative tasks in a friendly, cooperative environment. The Common Room President, elected each year, organises social events and charity fundraisers. Several members of staff offer their expertise free of charge to run different activities, including circuit training and the staff choir. You are also able to make use of the swimming pool and other sports facilities, before and after school, helping to burn off our renowned lunches!
Danes Hill has its own salary scale, which includes fringe weighting and full NQT induction is available. Staff also benefit from being part of the Teachers’ Pension Scheme.
Danes Hill is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
