About the school
Welcome to Desborough College.
We are a community comprehensive school for boys in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead and in October 2012 we became an Education Fellowship Academy. The school was founded over one hundred years ago as a grammar school and we try to protect and celebrate this heritage whilst sensibly implementing the best of current educational practice. We see the school as one that is inclusive and where boys can thrive in a safe single-sex learning environment. It is our view that for some boys this enables us to secure more personal growth and more effective teaching and learning. The school is large enough to offer a broad and balanced curriculum, but not so large that it becomes impersonal.
We feel that our main purposes are:
- To make sure that each student counts equally and is equally supported to develop his potential;
- To extend and stimulate students without over-stretching them;
- To extend the curriculum outside the classroom in many extra-curricular activities, particularly sport;
- To strive for continual improvements in teaching and learning.
The school celebrates its ethnic, linguistic and cultural diversity and our specialist designation as a Language College is a critical part of this. The school holds International Schools Award, sponsored by the British Council and department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) and strives to promote respect for other cultures and to challenge xenophobia. We were the first secondary school in the Local Authority to be designated as an Extended School, which has enabled us to offer more opportunities outside the school day and work even more closely with the community.
