Oakfield First School

About the school

The School

Oakfield is situated on a most attractive site in Windsor with a large tree-lined playing field and two playgrounds. We have an outdoor swimming pool used by the children in the Summer term and our environmental areas include a pond area, a butterfly garden and an outdoor classroom.

The majority of our large, airy classrooms open out onto verandah areas for outdoor learning activities. All have disabled access including our two upstairs classrooms which are accessible via a lift. We have extended the school to incorporate four additional classrooms including a specially designed Foundation teaching unit. Our spacious entrance hall houses the school library and a work area  and our facilities also include a large assembly hall, a separate dining room, purpose designed small group teaching rooms and a kiln for firing pottery.

We have achieved many national awards including Artsmark Gold, the National Healthy Schools Standard, the Active Mark (for sports), the Quality In Study Support (QuiSS) award and the Eco-Schools Silver Award. Oakfield is also an Investor in People, and a Healthy School. We are particularly proud to hold the Artsmark Triple Gold Award, celebrating the fact that we are one of the few schools nationally to have achieved Artsmark Gold on three consecutive occasions.

Ethos, Aims and Values

Our school statement of values ‘Excellence through Partnership in Learning’ embodies our whole school philosophy. This encompasses adult to child, child to adult, child to child and adult to adult learning, creating a culture in which everybody feels confident to try new things safe in the knowledge that mistakes are always regarded as new opportunities for development.

Oakfield First School challenges and motivates every child, arousing curiosity and promoting a confident approach to learning through our broad and balanced curriculum, described by Ofsted (June 2010) as ‘outstanding’. The children participate actively in all aspects of the life of school, and develop a sense of self-discipline and self control. Their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is outstanding (Ofsted 2010).

Education at Oakfield is a true partnership between children, parents, teachers, school support staff and our many volunteers. We all work together to enable every child to make the best possible progress regardless of class, colour or gender. Our school provides a happy, challenging and secure environment which offers a firm foundation for our children’s future social and academic development.
