The Piggott School
About the school
About The Piggott School Thank you for your interest in The Piggott School. We are an extremely successful, oversubscribed and happy co-educational Academy. Our senior school site is on the outskirts of Wargrave (near Twyford) and our primary school site is in the village of Charvil.
The Piggott School was established in 1939 and, together with our primary site at Charvil, we are an all-through 4-18, mixed, comprehensive school with a higher than average ability intake. The Piggott School senior site has 1319 students and 170 staff.
The Charvil Piggott Primary School opened in September 2013. We currently have 172 pupils in Years F2 to 5. The school will expand as the children grow, admitting 30 new children each year until we have reached our capacity of 210 in 2019. The school is completely built and provides outstanding facilities for our children and staff.
Our mission is to be a school which inspires and encourages the highest achievement for each and every child. I believe that our school provides the correct balance and blend of academic challenge, personal care and enrichment that fosters the holistic development of each and every student. My aim as Headteacher is to broaden our students’ horizons and liberate their potential.
The quality of teaching and learning at our school enables us to achieve our aim to help every student to develop into the very best they can be: to be independent in their thinking, to value lifelong learning, to be open to new ideas and to encourage respect and tolerance. Our examination results are outstanding. In 2018 our GCSE results were 84% 5A* to C including English 4+ and mathematics 4+. In English GCSE, 93% of students were awarded a grade between 9 and 4. In mathematics 88% of students were awarded a grade between 9 and 4. These results place us in at least the top 10% of schools nationally for value added at KS4. Our KS5 progress score also places us in the top 10% of schools nationally.
The care and guidance offered at our school by the outstanding staff provide a culture and ethos, based on Christian values, which successfully help every child feel safe, happy and challenged. Our pupils are a delight to teach with both OfSTED and SIAMS grading us Outstanding for behaviour and safety.
Applicants for this post do not need to be practising Christians but must promote and uphold our Christian values.
