Description

Required September 2022

Set in 400 acres of beautiful parkland just one hour from central London, Wellington College is one of the world’s leading co-educational boarding and day schools, is home for nearly 1,100 pupils and 180 teaching staff, and has an enviable reputation for excellence and innovation. Due to the internal promotion of two current post-holders, we are looking for passionate, well-organised and self-motivated individuals with strong pastoral instincts to join us as HM in the Anglesey and Orange boarding Houses.

The College prides itself on the outstanding levels of pastoral support we offer our pupils. At the heart of our pastoral network are the Houses, where we seek to create a home away from home for every Wellingtonian. Each House is led and overseen by an HM, along with a team of tutors and domestic staff, whose focus is on the safety, wellbeing and holistic development of the pupils in their care.

Responsible for the health, academic, social and pastoral welfare of each girl, we will rely on you to encourage and inspire members of the House not only to achieve excellence in academic and co-curricular activities, but to develop their character and values too. Indeed, your input will help the girls grow into confident, mature and successful young women. You will also teach a reduced timetable allocation - including for GCSE, A Level and/or IB - in any subject currently offered at the College, as well as ensuring the smooth running of the House and compliance with relevant rules and policies. Training and appraising tutors, ensuring routine paperwork is dealt with efficiently and communicating regularly as the main point of contact between parents and the College are just some of the other important aspects of this vital leadership role.

Successful candidates will have a strong desire to live and work within the pastoral community of a fun, forward-thinking and busy boarding school, as well as an awareness of the key safeguarding requirements associated with such a residential role.

This is an excellent career development opportunity – indeed many HMs at Wellington have gone on to Deputy Headship and Headship in recent years – and it comes with a generous salary and benefits package too. If you are a dedicated team-player who strives for excellence, leads by example and is committed to boarding school life, apply today.

Please note that CVs must be accompanied by a fully completed and signed College application form.
