Committed to becoming a market leader in STEM, our well-resourced DET department’s mission is to support and inspire pupils through teaching at third, fourth & fifth and sixth form level. We also support curriculum based personal research projects and aim to broaden students’ knowledge through enrichment activities, extra circular club (including an electric racing car team) talks, societies and trips. Your focus will be on providing assistance and advice in order to help us meet the practical needs of the STE curriculum. As well as supporting pupils in the workshop alongside a member of the teaching staff, we’ll rely on you to assist with the day-to-day servicing of our workshop and carry out routine equipment maintenance. Helping to prepare, organise and store learning resources and equipment will be important too, as will carrying out Health and Safety checks. And, when it comes to constructing and modifying apparatus, improving on existing/design new experiments and equipment or contributing to the design, development and maintenance of specialist resources, again, we’ll count on you.
As well as a relevant qualification, you’ll need experience of working in a workshop setting or with industry specific machinery and/or technology or a genuine interest in Design & Engineering with a real desire to learn. A dedicated team player who strives for excellence, you work well without direction, have a high level of accuracy and numeracy and strong attention to detail. What’s more, you have the communication skills it takes to engage effectively with pupils, parents, staff and visitors alike and are keen to contribute towards the College community. A Candidate with strong IT and CAD skills, with the ability to produce displays, media content (from video and pictures) and possible experience with 3D printing and laser cutting would also be desirable.
