We are a pioneering Academy and are looking for like-minded, ambitious people who can make great things happen for the young people in this community.

Students at The Leigh UTC “are proud to attend a school that is realising its vision of ‘developing STEM professionals for the future global market’” Ofsted, 2022

Who are we looking for? We are looking for a dynamic individual to lead an established Mathematics department, as a Director of Learning, from September 2023. Successful candidates will be passionate about driving excellent teaching of Mathematics and share our vision of developing STEM professionals for the future global market.

The successful candidate will have a supportive team, an incredible wealth of resources and students who appreciate the importance of Mathematics in the modern world. The role involves supporting the ongoing development of the Maths curriculum, developing teachers as practitioners, leading assessment strategy and upholding rigorous standards as common practice. There is no better place to teach Mathematics than in a successful academy with a STEM focus!

We believe our team ethos is the most important aspect of our success, making this a great opportunity for an experienced practitioner looking for the opportunity to be innovative in a supportive environment. An incoming Director of Learning will be leading a team consisting of one senior leader, one lead practitioner, two coordinators of learning (responsible for KS3 and KS4), two full time teachers and one ECT.

Our curriculum is very strong: we instruct in an MYP (IB) approach at KS3 with a real emphasis on the principles of Mastery; deliver AQA GCSE at KS4; and teach 80% of all post-16 students a bespoke KS5 course. Our post-16 offer is second to none, students have access to IB Diploma Maths, A-level Maths and Core Maths, as well as tailored courses designed to match the needs of the Engineering and T-level courses within the school.

Applications are welcomed from experienced teachers with leadership experience.

Why work for us? At The Leigh UTC, we create opportunities for meaningful collaboration for staff, we provide a respectful working environment and we encourage innovation from every member of our team. Our Principal, Governors teaching and support staff believe wholeheartedly in creating opportunities for lifelong success for our young people and believe that exam success is just one aspect in achieving this. We deliver amazing experiences for students whilst not compromising on outcomes. Our teamwork allows us to be greater than the sum of our parts - join us to achieve more than you thought possible.

Curriculum is king and we do things a little differently to other schools or colleges because we believe the most effective way to educate our students is to make our learning more hands-on. With the International Baccalaureate Middle Years programme (MYP) at KS3, GCSEs at KS4, and A-levels, T-levels and the International Baccalaureate Careers Programme (IBCP) at KS5, our ambitious curriculum offer caters for choice, leading the vast majority of students into STEM-related careers or courses.

Here’s what our colleagues think:

We are a community; the relationships between staff and students are highly supportive and they appreciate those who show care for them. Our colleagues support each other to be better. I couldn't imagine working anywhere else.” Melanie, Lead practitioner - English

I like working at the UTC because the environment has a very friendly and positive atmosphere. The staff are always happy to help one another and go beyond and above to ensure everyone is supported. Everyday has its own challenges but as a group of staff we always combat these challenges and work as a team.” Jason, who started with us as a cover supervisor in 2020 whilst completing his degree, he is now an ECT in our PE department

Students are superb and the staff are very supportive.” Lisa, Director of Learning for Business Studies

The fact that I think we make a difference to disadvantaged young people. I am also proud that we have high expectations for them (which they don't necessarily get at home) which I think will improve their life chances and outcomes.” Sharon, one of our support staff who works in the SEND department when asked what makes her most proud about the work that we do.

The Leigh UTC is a place where I started my teaching Journey. I was completely new to teaching and started my journey as a learning mentor in Jan 2019, and since then it has been very developmental. I have learned so much through some of the amazing people who I work with. It feels like everyone genuinely wants you to be your best at the UTC and I love that.” Zaeem, Director of Learning for Computer Science
