Who are we? The Leigh UTC opened in 2014 with state-of-the-art facilities. We are the first UTC to join a multi-academy trust, the first UTC to become an IB World School, the first UTC to be built in Kent and among the first Academies in the UK to offer T-levels. We were the first UTC to open from Year 7 and have been oversubscribed in all year groups ever since, now serving over 800 young people from Kent, Medway and South-East London. We are a pioneering Academy and are looking for like-minded, ambitious people who can make great things happen for the young people in this community.

Who are we looking for? We are looking for a dynamic individual to lead an established Mathematics department, as a Director of Learning, from September 2023. Successful candidates will be passionate about driving excellent teaching of Mathematics and share our vision of developing STEM professionals for the future global market.
The successful candidate will have a supportive team, an incredible wealth of resources and students who appreciate the importance of Mathematics in the modern world. The role involves supporting the ongoing development of the Maths curriculum, developing teachers as practitioners, leading assessment strategy and upholding rigorous standards as common practice. There is no better place to teach Mathematics than in a successful academy with a STEM focus!
We believe our team ethos is the most important aspect of our success, making this a great opportunity for an experienced practitioner looking for the opportunity to be innovative in a supportive environment. An incoming Director of Learning will be leading a team consisting of one senior leader, one lead practitioner, two coordinators of learning (responsible for KS3 and KS4), two full time teachers and one ECT.
Our curriculum is very strong: we instruct in an MYP (IB) approach at KS3 with a real emphasis on the principles of Mastery; deliver AQA GCSE at KS4; and teach 80% of all post-16 students a bespoke KS5 course. Our post-16 offer is second to none, students have access to IB Diploma Maths, A-level Maths and Core Maths, as well as tailored courses designed to match the needs of the Engineering and T-level courses within the school.
