Joining us from September 2021, our DoL Physical and Health Education will bring with them passion, experience and the capacity to inspire and motivate students and staff. The ideal candidate will also have experience of developing a highly successful and engaging co-curricular curriculum to inspire and motivate, and have experience of developing and maintaining strong partnerships with local community groups and organisations. This role is ideal for those seeking career progression and who have a keen interest in joining a highly successful and collaborative team. We welcome applications from experienced practitioners.

As DoL of Physical and Health Education you will lead a curriculum team that is committed to:

  • Advocating exercise as part of a healthy lifestyle.
  • Promoting Physical and Health Education as central to the school experience.
  • Exemplifying the values of respect, integrity, scholarship, ambition and resilience, whilst actively encouraging enjoyment and sportsmanship.
  • Building positive relationships between pupils, staff, parents and carers and the local community.

You will be responsible for securing the best possible outcomes for our students. The successful candidate will work to shape a modern and inclusive Physical and Health Education programme, promoting fitness for life and exploiting latest thinking in sports science to benefit and inspire pupils of all abilities.

What we will expect of you: Our appointed candidate will successfully lead this group of curriculum areas, and you will play a key role in inspiring the staff, as well as our students with your outstanding leadership. We will also expect you to successfully plan and deliver outstanding lessons on a daily basis that challenge our students and significantly advance their learning. We anticipate you will achieve this by being passionate about your subject and transferring your knowledge in a creative and efficient way in the classroom.

We’d like to hear from you if:

  • An excellent teacher who is passionate about learning and has strong subject knowledge
  • Collaborative, able to build strong professional relationships
  • Able to motivate and inspire students and staff to achieve their full potential
  • Energetic and have a ‘can-do’ attitude
  • Confident and has strong career aspirations
  • Committed to safeguarding and the happiness and wellbeing of everyone at the academy

Working at Leigh Academy Blackheath: We are a co-educational 11-18yr comprehensive school and, already oversubscribed, our new school is a beacon of excellence for secondary education in the Royal Borough of Greenwich. We are driven by the belief that every learner is entitled to an enriching, varied and personalised education; delivered through a broad and balanced curriculum that provides challenge, irrespective of need, starting point or background.  Our mission is to ensure all our students develop into powerful citizens of the digital future on both a national and global scale.

Our strong learning community works together and shares the value of collaboration; every member of our academy family works together to achieve success, cultivating a strong sense of belonging. Our belief in ‘human-scale’ education, delivered through a schools-within-schools model, ensures every one of our students is known and valued. Strong pastoral care is at the heart of our academy and we place great importance on building strong partnerships with parents and carers.

Since opening in September 2018, Leigh Academy Blackheath (LAB) has established itself as the local community’s preferred choice for their child’s secondary education. We have received over 1,000 applications for this September’s 180 Year 7 places, with nearly 300 first choice preferences. It is an exciting time to be joining our learning community.

At LAB, everything we do is built upon our core values of: Respect, Integrity, Ambition, Scholarship and Resilience.  We are a strong team and work hard together to ensure every student realises their full potential.  Staff have access to a wide range of professional development opportunities both within the academy and across Leigh Academies Trust (LAT).

Working in a brand new school is a unique opportunity. A flexible approach with a can-do ethos is required, as is drive, grit and boundless enthusiasm.  A sense of humour is essential!

Our successful candidates will receive:

  • A salary commensurate with the profile of the post
  • Bespoke CPD with mentoring and coaching opportunities
  • The opportunity to work laterally across a number of Leigh Academies Trust schools to benchmark best practice and to be involved in teaching and learning innovation

We also have one further secondary academy in the development phase, due to open in September 2021. The Trust is establishing four ‘clusters’ of academies: North West Kent; Central Kent; South East London; Medway.
