Twyford Church of England High School, an Ofsted outstanding school with a thriving Sixth Form, is one of four Twyford Trust schools, and you will be joining us at a time of growth. This is an exciting opportunity for an innovative teacher and curriculum planner who is looking to take on a role within departmental leadership. You will have responsibility for leading the department in planning and delivering the curriculum, and for monitoring the progress of students. You will ensure that the quality of teaching and learning in the department is consistently high, and will support the development of a culture of sharing good practice. You will also support the SLT link in the programme of lesson observations.  Additionally, you will be responsible for the delivery of a rich wider learning offer in computing - the role will also focus on creating a high quality extended school provision.  You will take responsibility for developing Industry links and ensuring high quality IAG within this field.

The Computing Department comprises three staff, including the Head of Department.  Students receive one hour per week of Computing teaching in Years 7 and 8, which moves up to three hours per fortnight in Year 9 where students can choose to study either Computer Science or ICT.  In Key Stage 4 students have the option to choose Computer Science GCSE or the Cambridge Nationals ICT course. Twyford also has a well-developed A Level Computer Science curriculum. Students learn to program in Python at GCSE and Java at A Level. You will lead a small but experienced team, and a key part of the role will be to develop engaging extra-curricular opportunities and increase uptake of the Computer Science GCSE and A Level.

The successful candidate will have:

  • A good degree and Qualified Teacher Status
  • The ability to teach Computer Science to A Level (including programming)
  • Proven record of outstanding results
  • Outstanding skills as a classroom teacher and as a tutor
  • Knowledge of the requirements of the National Curriculum
  • Knowledge of the processes and techniques required to assess, record and report students’ learning effectively
  • An excellent record of developmental work in current role
  • Some experience of managing or implementing curriculum systems and initiatives
  • Some experience of managing others / managing change
  • Ability to be reflective and driven towards self-improvement

The Twyford Trust was established in October 2011 to enable an existing School, Twyford CE High School, to build on its successes and look outward to the large number of parents who were eager to become part of its community. Twyford CE High School, Acton

Twyford CE High School was set up by the LDBS in 1981.  The school has an excellent reputation and is rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted (May 2012) and SIAMS (April 2017).  It has developed specialisms in Music and Modern Foreign Languages, as well as a large and highly successful Sixth Form in which Maths, Maths and Computing are the largest areas.  Since its inception the school has grown considerably and now admits around 975 students aged 11 to 16, and an additional 500 students to the Sixth Form.
