We are looking for an inspirational and accomplished Head of Mathematics to lead a Department with a reputation for excellence in a leading Prep School on the south coast.
Durlston Court is an independent, non-selective, co-educational preparatory school for 2-13 year olds on the Hampshire/Dorset border, about half a mile from the coast. We are a school that has that rare combination of high academic standards, a reputation for excellence and a warm family feel, the “Durlston Family”. The school regularly features as the top performing independent preparatory school in Hampshire and Dorset according to The Sunday Times Parent Power League. Our children leave to join a wide variety of schools, ranging from the local state and grammar schools at the age of 11, to some of the most prestigious independent and public schools in the country at the age of 13. The pupils have an enviable record of academic, sporting and performing arts success. Durlston Court is a great school in which to work.
We are seeking for September 2021 (or January 2022 for the right candidate), an outstanding Head of Mathematics to lead the teaching and learning of Maths across the school. You will be passionate about the subject and enjoy working with motivated and enthusiastic children. You will oversee teaching and learning in Maths from Reception up to, and including, Year 8, though your own teaching is likely to be focussed on the senior years. The department is a strong one as evidenced by success in Common Entrance and senior school examinations as well as external competitions. In addition, a number of pupils are prepared each year to sit for scholarship papers at prestigious senior public or independent schools. The Head of Maths’ role is crucial in ensuring all children are equipped with the knowledge and skills required for success in these entrance papers. In addition to line managing another Maths Teacher, the Head of Maths will also liaise closely with class teachers in the Middle school and Pre-Prep Department to ensure that the curriculum is fit for purpose.
Applications are welcomed from teachers in either the state or private sector. The overriding priority is to appoint someone with a track record of outstanding teaching and learning.
Further information is available in the job description and person specification (a part-time appointment (0.8/0.9) could be considered).
Closing date: 17:00, Tuesday 11 May 2021.
The format of interviews will depend on the prevailing Covid restrictions in place.
