Description

St Andrew the Apostle opened in 2013 and is the only state maintained secondary Greek Orthodox school in the country. It operates under the same legal framework as all other designated faith schools; and the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Great Britain is proud to join the Roman Catholic and Anglican and other churches in contributing to high standards in state education.

The school is inclusive and welcoming; serving not only the Greek Orthodox community across Barnet and North London (for whom half of our places are reserved) but also a diverse local community in which a range of faiths and beliefs are represented. The school community is built on our Christian faith and values, exemplified by our emphasis on kindness, respect and responsibility. School examination results are consistently good, which is reflected in both national GCSE performance tables and the destinations of our students after sixth form. This is an exciting time to lead the school: As well as the broadening of our sixth form provision in the next few years, construction of our new permanent building, on land next to our current accommodation, has begun and will complete in September 2024

St Andrew is part of the Russell Education Trust, one of the highest performing MATs in the UK. You will benefit from working closely with four other high-performing secondary schools, including two other church schools. Trust headteachers and staff each belong to trust-wide professional networks which develop and disseminate best practice.

The school itself is a wonderful place to work, characterised not only by high academic standards but also by the strength of the leadership team and the staff.  Governors also play an active role in the life of the school. We have an enviably high level of subject expertise among our staff, many of whom have shaped our curriculum. Our focus is on English, maths, science, literacy and numeracy within the usual broad and balanced curriculum, but  we also offer Latin, Greek and classics. Extra-curricular activities including sport, music and charitable projects are widely appreciated by students and parents.

We are looking for a dedicated and inspiring professional to work closely with governors, trust, parents and the wider community and lead us through the next phase of the school’s development. A committed Christian and an outstanding practitioner, you will have a demonstrable track record of successful school leadership and will understand the challenges of leading a diverse, multi-cultural school. You may be an experienced Headteacher looking for a new challenge or a Deputy Headteacher or Head of School ready for the next step.

Closing Date: Monday 3rd October 2022.
