Description

Voluntary role • Approximately 20 – 30 hours per year • 2 year term of office • Hybrid (participation in meetings can be either remote, via Microsoft Teams, or in person)

Do you share our belief that education transforms lives?

We are seeking a governance volunteer with HR/People experience to join our Human Resources Committee as a co-opted member to realise our vision, mission and strategy to enable us to have a positive impact on the children and young people in the communities we serve across Sussex.

This provides a fantastic opportunity for a HR professional to:

  • share their skills, experience and expertise for the benefit of children and young people, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds
  • further develop their learning and broaden their experience, the benefit of their career development
  • where available, participate in a volunteering programme supported by their employer, supporting your organisation’s social responsibility strategy or similar

The person

You will have experience as a HR professional (or a manager with significant HR experience) who will contribute to the Trust’s vision and future strategy through membership of the Human Resources Committee which is responsible for:

  • monitoring the Trust’s people strategies and associated HR policies
  • appointing senior staff in the Trust
  • monitoring staff pay across the Trust

You will be able to demonstrate sound business judgement, effective communication and interpersonal skills, and a willingness to work as part of a team to help us achieve our aims. We will expect you to be ‘challenging’, but at the same time respectful of the views of others, and to adopt a constructive, collegiate and supportive approach to this very important role.

We are looking to develop a Human Resources Committee that is as inclusive as possible and which effectively represents the broad, diverse communities we serve; therefore, we would welcome applications from the broadest spectrum of backgrounds.

The role

Committee members promote the highest standards of governance and transparency, ensuring that the Board of Trustees and its committees fulfil their responsibilities for the governance of the Trust. Together with the Trustees, committee members and the Chief Executive, you will help determine the strategic direction of the Trust and set policy.

You will attend each Human Resources Committee meeting (Typically four meetings a year). Attendance at meetings can be in person or remotely, using Microsoft Teams.

For more information about the role, please refer to our role description.
