We have an exciting opportunity to appoint a Junior Fellow: Mathematics, starting in September 2024.

The Winchester College Graduate Trainee Teacher (Junior Fellowship) scheme is an excellent opportunity for graduates considering a career in education. The Junior Fellowship is offered annually on a fixed one-year basis to recent university graduates and has been designed to provide aspiring teachers with the support and training they need to become excellent practitioners both in and outside the classroom.

As well as offering a constructive and practical first step into the world of teaching, the scheme offers an all-encompassing experience of school life in an independent boarding school.

The successful candidate, who will teach throughout the school, will join a thriving Mathematics Department that has 13 teachers. Several teachers have research degrees in various disciplines – Pure Mathematics, Applied Mathematics and Physics – so, in due course, may wish to develop their teaching in other areas of the school including Physics and Computer Science. All colleagues find the Mathematics Department a stimulating and collegiate place in which to work and teach.

A huge majority of the pupils in the upper and lower sixth forms (which is recently expanded with the addition of female and day pupils) study Mathematics; and of these nearly half also take Further Mathematics. In Summer 2023, 92% of our GCSE candidates achieved a grade 9-7. At A-level, 83% of entries for Mathematics and Further Mathematics were at A* or A grade. The higher sets throughout the school participate in the various activities of the UKMT, with excellent results.
