Description

35.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday)

Term time only, plus 2 weeks (40 weeks per year)

We have an exciting opportunity for someone to join our passionate, experienced and collegiate Music and Drama teams. The successful candidate will provide effective technical, administrative and operational support during the school day, at after school clubs and with a variety of productions and events.

Duties will include setting up equipment and resources ready for practical lessons, helping students’ access equipment, resources and specialist software and assist the smooth running of performances, events and workshops. We are ideally looking for someone keen to share their technical knowledge by running an extra-curricular music technology club to help inspire new generation of music technologists and a Theatre Production club for students interested in the work completed ‘backstage’. This could be something that builds up over time rather than something we would expect from week one.

If you have a passion for music and drama, feel you are able to support learning and establish good relationships with colleagues and students, we would love to hear from you. To be successful you will be able to demonstrate excellent time-management and communication skills, and effectively prioritize your work and the ad hoc challenges that occur during the course of a day, and throughout the school year. An A Level or BTEC Level 3 in Music Technology, or excellent knowledge, as well as experience of lighting and sound for performances is desirable but not essential.

Hinchley Wood School is an ‘Outstanding’ (Ofsted, 2023), inclusive and high achieving school on the borders of South West London. Oversubscribed each year, we have 1,355 students on roll including 253 in our Sixth Form. We are one of the top 100 performing schools in England and Wales in terms of the progress our students make between the end of Key Stage 2 and their GCSEs. Hinchley Wood School has been ranked 18th in the Sunday Times Top Comprehensive Schools (2023). Our Progress 8 figure is significantly positive year on year; +0.9 in 2023 has put us in the top 4% of schools nationally.

The working pattern for this role is Monday to Friday, term time and expected to be 8.15am – 3.30pm on 3 days extending until 4.30 on 2 days per week to support extracurricular clubs. In addition there is a requirement to support and attend performances out of school hours as required. The actual pattern of hours will be agreed with the successful candidate.

We take staff and student wellbeing very seriously and have invested time and money in ensuring that all members of our school feel supported and happy.

Amongst our benefits, we offer:

  • family friendly term time working
  • a supportive and collaborative team
  • two week Autumn half term
  • competitive salary and annual performance progression;
  • staff benefits & discount scheme
  • occupational health and employee assistance programme
  • free use of Gym at HWS
  • professional development support; and
  • membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme with generous employer contribution.
