37 hours per week, 8.30 am - 4.00 pm, term time only (39 weeks per year) - Term time only plus INSETS
We want to hear from you if you are a committed, proactive, and flexible Learning Support Mentor who could make a difference in pupils’ lives and their experience of education, especially those who have become disengaged. We have a vacancy to deliver reading interventions to pupils in both Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 across our provisions in Slough, assisting pupils in overcoming barriers to learning.
About the school
Haybrook College educates young people aged 11 to 19 who have challenging and complex Social, Emotional, and Mental Health difficulties (SEMH) or medical needs. We have multiple provisions providing bespoke, child-centered, and high-quality education programmes, which aim to ensure that all the pupils individual educational needs are met. We offer provision for a range of pupils across KS3 to KS5, as a result of SEND, Managed Moves, Permanent Exclusions, or out-of-area placements.
Our ideal candidate will:
Have experience working with either small groups or 1:1 with pupils who may have complex social and emotional difficulties, may demonstrate challenging behaviour or who may have Special Educational Needs. This may be as a mentor, teaching assistant, youth worker or other support role.
- Ideally have prior knowledge of developing the literacy skills needed by pupils in order to access the curriculum at Key Stages 3 and 4.
- An understanding of the National Reading Tests and the Literacy Framework and their impact on the pupils and the school would also be advantageous.
- Be able to mentor pupils with a confident and positive approach to motivate and engage them in their learning.
- Be able to remain calm in challenging circumstances, providing a safe and positive learning environment and de-escalating any threatening or aggressive behaviour.
