Required for September 2021
The governors at Reading School, a selective boys’ state school located in central Reading, seek to appoint an enthusiastic, well-educated member of staff to join our Biology team from September 2021 or earlier if preferred by the successful applicant. We offer an exciting opportunity in an exceptional team and a School that is passionate about biology as a subject. Our ideal candidate must be passionate about biology and ready to nurture enquiry. This commitment, and a strong biology degree or background is very important to us.
The Biology Department is housed within a new purpose-built science block which opened in 2017.
These excellent facilities consist of four biology laboratories, a large well-equipped modern biology prep room and a connecting teacher’s work area. The department is an innovative, friendly and experienced team, who have worked together for a number of years and we are eager to add fresh ideas and energy to the department.
Biology is taught as a separate subject from Year 7 and is extremely popular and successful.
All students study OCR Biology (Gateway) 9-1 at GCSE and the subject has one of the highest uptakes at A Level (typically around 45 - 60students in Year 12), where they study OCR Biology A.
Many of the pupils proceed to study science-related subjects at university. Results are consistently high with GCSE performance in 2019 and 2020 at 97% Grade 9-7 and 80% A*-A at A Level.
Closing date: Friday 19 February 2021.
Reading School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students and expects all staff to share this commitment. The successful applicant will be subject to a DBS check. Salary will be in line with teacher pay scales and will depend on experience. A recruitment and retention allowance may be available for an exceptional candidate.
