The Leigh UTC opened in 2014 with state-of-the-art facilities. We are the first UTC to join a multi-academy trust, to become an IB World School, to be built in Kent and among the first Academies in the UK to offer T-levels and Level 3 and 4 apprenticeships. We were the first UTC to open from Year 7 and have been oversubscribed in all year groups ever since, now serving over 800 young people from Kent, Medway and South-East London. We are a pioneering Academy and are looking for like-minded, ambitious people who can make great things happen for the young people in our community.

We are looking for a dynamic individual to join our collaborative Humanities department in the role of Teacher of Geography. The successful candidate will be passionate about delivering a geography curriculum which supports our vision of developing STEM professionals for the future global market. At The Leigh UTC, we believe our team ethos is the most important aspect of our success, making this a great opportunity for a teacher who wants the opportunity to be innovative and collaborative in a supportive environment. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to shape an engaging and challenging curriculum as we continue on our journey to produce an exceptional curriculum that serves the pupils in our community.

We aim to develop learners who are not only confident in subject knowledge but strong communicators, thinkers and inquirers. We want to inspire our students to seek an understanding of the wider world around them in Geography. The Leigh UTC is a STEM-based provision, but our learners enjoy and value their studies in Humanities and see the relevance of the subject to the rest of their studies and to their futures.

The Coordinator of Learning for Humanities is an experienced practitioner who is keen to support people to develop their practice as well as collaborate to make the curriculum an exciting and inspiring journey for the pupils at The Leigh UTC. This supportive environment makes this a great opportunity for an Early Career Teacher (ECT) to develop; but anyone with a strong interest in teaching and learning will love the atmosphere in this department!

​​​​Working with us: ​​​​​​​Having opened in September 2014 with state-of-the-art facilities originally for Key Stage 4 and 5, The Leigh UTC provides an exciting, innovative, business-led, problem-solving curriculum, enabling students to achieve relevant academic and work-related qualifications and transferable skills for future destinations. The most unique feature of The Leigh UTC is its business ethos that are emphasised by our STEM rich curriculum and relationships with local and national employers.

In September 2017, following the request of the Department for Education due to our continued success, The Leigh UTC marked history by expanding its student intake to incorporate Key Stage 3 – the first UTC in England to do this. Furthermore, being the first UTC to have IB World School Status has enabled us to develop strong international links. Having IB Status has  enabled us to further develop the mid-years programme (MYP) for our Key Stage 3 students and thus providing a joined-up pathway from ages 11 to 19.  The overarching mission of the Inspiration Academy is to develop curious, academically-skilled young people who aspire to be principled, compassionate learners. Our curriculum strives to create students who are self-motivated, competent, willing to take risks and lifelong learners.

Our key successes and features that our successful candidate can be part of are as follows;

​​​​​​​​​​​​​Being part of Leigh Academies Trust: As of 1st September 2022, our Trust comprises 30 geographically organised academies (14 secondaries, 14 primaries and 2 special) educating 20,000 students, and employing 3,000 talented staff. The Trust is establishing four ‘clusters’ of academies: North Kent; Central Kent; South East London; Medway. In addition, the Trust is responsible for one of the region’s biggest initial teaching training organisations, a large teaching school hub and is an accredited apprenticeship provider.
