We are seeking to appoint a Literacy Coach to lead the development of school-wide literacy teaching. The teaching of literacy is central to our whole school curriculum vision and we passionately believe that to prepare our students for life beyond school, we must support them to be capable speakers, readers and writers.

In recent years, we have pursued a disciplinary approach to literacy, challenging our teachers and Curriculum Leaders to carefully consider the literacy skills students need if they are to read, write and speak like historians, scientists, artists etc. The successful candidate will play a key role in evolving this strategy, and will have a sound understanding of what good literacy teaching looks like. You should possess the soft skills required to support teachers and Subject Leaders to further develop the teaching of literacy schoolwide. Furthermore, we would want you to be committed to creating an enthusiasm for reading school wide. You will have ownership of the whole school tutor time guided reading programme, and will work closely with the Heads of Year to ensure this curriculum is delivered effectively. You will also line manage the school librarian and have strategic oversight of the school library.

The successful candidate may have prior curriculum leadership experience, alternatively this may be their first additional responsibility. Either way, they will be passionate about literacy, have the ability to lead others, and be an excellent Teacher of English in their own right.
